Overview: This is a short hike on the Oregon Coast that brings you into a massive area of sand dunes. When you climb up onto them you'll feel like you are in the middle of a massive dessert instead of actually still in Oregon. Take a fun tumble down them and walk along their windblown ridges to see the sand collapse under your feet. This is truly an amazing spot on the coast.

Tips: From Reedsport, drive 10.5 miles south on 101 to the Umpqua Dunes Trail signpost. Turn west into the parking lot. You'll need a Northwest Forest Pass to park here for the afternoon.

Points of Interest

Parking Lot

Head off on the half mile interpretive trail at the end of the parking area.

The Dunes

From here the trail obviously disappears. Jut pick a route and head up into the dunes. Make sure to follow your tracks back. If you have the energy you can try walking clear across the dunes towards the Pacific in the distance but you'll be blocked by thick brush before you actually hit the water. Return the way you came but keep an eye out for another trail that will bring you in a loop back to the car.

Loop trail

Look to your right as you come back towards the treeline for a different trail that will bring you in a loop back to your vehicle. This trail also has interpretive signs about the local flora/fauna.
