Overview: Directions: Take I-70 West to C-470 East. Take the Wadsworth Boulevard exit. Turn right off of the exit and then turn right at the first light, Deer Creek Canyon road. Go about 2 miles to a stop sign, turn left and continue past the South Valley park trail head. In less than a mile from the South Valley park trail head, turn left onto Grizzly Drive. This will lead you to the obvious parking lot on your right.

This trail is intermediate in difficulty with one advanced technical section (beware of the stairs).

You are about 1.1 miles from the start. Continue past this intersection with the Meadowlark trail, a hiking only trail.

Stairway

Welcome to the stairway. Ascending it is nearly impossible. Descending it takes some guts but is do-able.

Plymouth Mountain trail intersection

You are about 1.5 miles from the start. This is the intersection with the Plymouth Mountain trail. You have a couple of choices here. You can continue on the Plymouth Creek trail, or for this ride description, I took the Plymouth Mountain trail. This trail makes a 2.2 mile loop and reconnects with the Plymouth Creek trail later (POI 9).

This is a hiking only trail. Do not take this.

Scenic View trail intersection

You are about 3.2 miles from the start. If you are up for it, take the Scenic View trail and get a scenic view. It is about 0.4 miles one way and will bring you to the center of the park.

Homesteader trail is a hiking only trail. Do not take this.

Plymouth Mountain trail reconnects with Plymouth Creek trail

You are about 3.7 miles from the start. Congratulations. You just finished the Plymouth Mountain loop. Turn left and continue on the Plymouth Creek trail, heading towards the Red Mesa loop. Only one more loop to go.

Homesteader trail intersection

You are about 3.8 miles from the start. Another intersection with the Homesteader trail, hiking only.

Red Mesa Loop intersection

You are about 4.2 miles from the start. This is the start/end of the Red Mesa Loop trail. You can go either way, but for this trail description, I went straight/right and followed the loop counterclockwise.

This is another hiking only trail.

Red Mesa Loop

Congratulations on finishing the Red Mesa Loop. You will have complete about 6.7 miles from the start. Follow the Plymouth Creek trail back to the parking lot. It is almost all downhill.

Total mileage for the ride described is about 9.1 miles.

Once again, feel free to add on the Rattlesnake Gulch and Scenic View trails if you feel like riding more.

This is a nice addition to the main part of the Deer Creek Canyon Trail. It is about 0.4 miles in length.
