Overview: On this relatively straightforward climb you will walk down the Lake Road, then follow the Gill Brook trail up over Mt. Colvin to Blake Peak thus grabbing two more 46ers for your list. You'll also have the option of checking out the Indian Head side Trail for great views over Lower Ausable Lake below. This guide also includes a short loop side trip to the Indian Head lookout over Lower Ausable Lake. This is a hike you will enjoy!

Tips: St. Huberts Trailhead:
The parking area is just off of Rte 73 just 7.5 miles west from exit 30 off of I-87. You'll then need to walk up the golf course road to the beautiful wooden gate marking the entrance to the Lake Road which you will follow for several miles until veering off on the Gill brook trail. There are no fees to park here.

Indian Head Viewpoint

This rock ledge you are standing on from the lake below looks very similar to the head of a Native American. From here you will have great views down to the lake and also up towards Colvin above. This short loop trail will bring you back to the Gill Brook Trail leading up Colvin.

Trail Junction

Here a trail towards Elk pass leaves the Gill Brooke Trail. This will take you towards Nippletop. Ignore this trail and keep heading up.

Blake Peak Summit

At 3,986' you are the top of Blake Peak. Although under 4,000 feet it was once believed to be above that height so is still considered an official 46er. Head back the same way you came. Or, for a really big challenge if you are full of energy try heading back via Elk Pass and up and over Nippletop and Dial for a really epic climb of 4 high peaks! This wooded summit doesn't have a great view but about 1/3 mile south down the trail towards what is called "pinnacle" there is a viewpoint.
