Bunce School Road, Ironclads, Plane Crash 4x4 Trails

Overview: See historic Bunce School, impressive Ironclads, and interesting plane wreckage. Abundant dispersed camping. Bunce School Road is part county road and part forest road. We saw unlicensed vehicles along the entire road, but cannot vouch for OHV legality on the county portion. Open May 15 through November 30. Rating:

Difficult. Bunce School Road is mostly easy with a few moderate spots. Side trips to the Ironclads and T-33 Plane Crash are rocky, steep and difficult. The final climb to the Ironclads is extremely steep, but you are close enough at that point to hike the rest of the way.

Tips: Bunce School Road is a mix of county and forest roads. The Motor Vehicle Use Map shows the road as Road 105, but we found it still marked with its original designation of 115. Perhaps it has been corrected now. At the south end of the trail, you can head west on County Road 92 to Middle St. Vrain 4x4 Trail, described in our Northern Colorado book shown above.
