6.6 miles, Half day
You'll only be going up 1,985 feet in this 4 hour climb from Pilot to the top of Buck Mountain at 2,448 feet. The summit is very rocky with great views all around. Over the lake on a clear day you will see the High Peaks towering to the north.
Tip: Head up here on the 4th of July to camp out on the summit. See my explaination in the summit POI.
Directions to trailhead:
Take exit 20 off of I-87 and follow route 9 north to route 149 headed east. Follow 149 until you pass a golf course on your left (queensbury golf course). Take a left at the next road which is 9L. Follow 9L north towards the lake, taking a right hand turn onto Pilot Knob Road when the road splits. Follow this road for another 3 miles until you see a large DEC sign on the right side of the road marking the parking lot for the trailhead.
