Overview: The Brooklyn neighborhood of Park Slope has a dual identity as both a place to raise kids and a place to go out to eat and drink. Many bars & restaurants feature organic and artisanal snacks, plus friendly bartenders who carefully craft cocktails and happily dispense neighborhood tips along with cold brews.

If you spent the day exploring the nearby Brooklyn Museum of Art, shopping for vintage clothing along trendy Fifth Avenue or exploring the Prospect Park Zoo with your kids, you can recharge at any of these local spots.

You can also find a number of happy hours in Park Slope where you get reduced price drinks, making this a budget friendly place to get a drink.

The Dram Shop

The Dram Shop, mid block on 9th St., throws open its windows in warm weather. You can also sit in the rear patio and enjoy one of the 12 beers on tap or the full bar.

The bar opens at 3pm on weekdays, and a great happy hour runs till 6pm daily; half priced draft beers and well drinks. On Saturdays and Sundays, when The Dram Shop opens at noon, happy hour is 12-3.

You can play pool, darts and shuffleboard.

The typical bar food includes addictive French fries.

Flipsters

At the corner of 7th Avenue and 9th Street, Brooklyn Flipsters has outdoor seating where you can have a burger and a brew, or a long bar where you can catch a game.

Get a pitcher of one of the dozen beers on tap, or try the jalepeno martini.

A happy hour runs Monday - Friday, with all drinks half price, 4-7pm.

And if you are hitting Flipsters with your kids, they have thick, delicious milkshakes.

Head 2 blocks up 9th Street to Prospect Park, with a large playground and summer concert series, Celebrate Brooklyn! at the bandshell.

Cafe Steinhof

Cafe Steinhof, an Austrian restaurant, shows free movies on Sunday nights.
Try Austrian or German lagers and pilsners; there are 6 beers on tap, one of them local.

The U-boot is a beer with a shot of Obstle, pear and apple brandy.

The daily happy hour, 4-7pm, offers $3 beers on tap or well drinks.

On the way to the next pub, you pass Toy Space, a local store with a well curated selection of toys.

Thistle Hill Tavern

Thistle Hill Tavern has a tiny bar featuring artisanal producers, from local beers on tap (3 of 5 are local) to New York single-malt whiskey to inexpensive Brooklyn wine. Try Brooklyn Oenology, Social Club Red ’06 or the white Viognier ’07.

A Brooklyn Gin & Tonic uses floral gin from The Breuckelen Distilling Company and Brooklyn Q tonic.

You can have a drink outside or at a table even if you are not eating. But try the tasty salt & pepper fries, home made pickles or fried fennel snacks.

Beer Table

Beer Table is a beer geek paradise, with 6 taps dispensing a rotating array of unusual beers. There is even a Brooklyn Soda Works tap offering local craft sodas. And you can take home a growler of beer for later.

Beer Table offers complete meals, but you sit at a backless stool. You might want to stick with snacks like radishes, roasted nuts or a cheese plate.

Some of the beers pair well with local Mast Brothers chocolate.

Brook-vin

Get a little fancier at Brook-vin, a wine bar where you can sample dozens of wine by the glass. There are also a couple of local beers on tap, plus unusual cocktails like a spicy horseradish martini, with pickled garlic that might ward off vampires.

In summer, try the cucumber martini, with gin and lime. And the non-vegetarian friendly glazed ham is for those who like a snack with their drinks: bacon infused bourbon, maple syrup and pork cracklin’

You can get a cheese plate here, a tartine, or snacks like spicy pickles.

The happy hour has $4 drinks and $5 food plates Tuesday - Friday, 5-7pm, Saturday & Sunday 2-5pm and all night on Mondays.
