Overview: At 345 feet above sea level this is the lowest state highpoint in elevation. The state has done a nice job erecting a maintained highpoint pull-off for highpointers in the small town of Lakewood in Florida's western panhandle. Try to ignore the fact that there will be cows grazing in the fields across the street, although with Florida's heat it is nice you can walk 30 feet back to your air conditioned car. The total drive from the state capitol is 139 miles and 2 and half hours making this a possible half day trip if you live in the panhandle. If you live in Miami... well, this might be a two day trip for you! If you live in Key West... maybe you should hop on a plane :)

Tips: Driving Directions:
Take I-10 along the Florida panhandle to the Route 331 exit (exit 85) just south of De Funiak Springs. Follow US-331 north for 18 miles until you see a sign for the highpoint. From that sign its another 3 short miles on Highway 285 to the parking lot on the left at the top of a steep hill (steep for Florida) in the road.

The State Highpoint

Marked by a monument. This is actually a really nice little park for the highpoint that was established. You are now at the lowest highpoint of the country at 345 feet. Ignore the cows grazing in the pasture across the street...
