Overview: Biloxi is probably best known for its casinos, but there are many different types of family friendly attractions. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated much of Biloxi but Biloxi is fighting hard to come back better than ever. Our favorite activity of the visit was the Biloxi Shrimping Trip and I hope you add this to your itinerary when you head to Biloxi. It is a great way to learn more about the area's growth and life on the Gulf Coast.

Tips: Plan to spend at least one full day exploring these activities. Depending on the ages of your children and their interests, you may choose to visit only one or two activities in one day or you may wish to spend a few hours at several different activities. If you wish to spend more time at each activity, you will need more than one day. The activities are spread out throughout the city so you will need a car to get to each activity. Plan out your itinerary well because the traffic on Hwy 90 (Beach Blvd) can get very busy and you will not want to drive back and forth if you can avoid it. While you are driving around, be on the lookout for sculptures carved into the trees. There are over 50 of these beautiful sculptures carved into trees that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Lynn Meadows Discovery Center

The adventure at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center begins when your children will get to climb to the top floor through the climbing sculpture in the middle of the room as you follow on the ramps. The top floor offers an airport and foreign travel to Mexico as well as my daughter's favorite, the Mississippi City Center Hotel that reminded me of great grandma's house complete with gloves, hats, and shawls to try on in front of the standing mirror. There is a grocery store where you can go shopping, a television station where children can broadcast themselves, and a science discovery area. On the first floor, there is a toddler center perfect for children ages four and under as well as a train depot and a port with a shrimping boat and more. Don't forget to visit the outdoor exhibits where you will find a treehouse village that will remind you of the Swiss Family Robinson, a log cabin and a kid sized subdivision. Be sure to call or check the website before you visit because occasionally the museum will close due to special events.
