Overview: A short, often windy, hike up a nearby peak as you enter Yellowstone National Park from the east (Cody, WY). You'll pass through beautiful forests with meadows of wildflowers and end up on a windy barren peak with views over Yellowstone below.

Tips: From Cody, WY drive east towards Yellowstone and look for the trailhead at the top of the pass. There is a $25 fee to enter Yellowstone.

Avalanche Peak Summit

Watch out for very curious and brave ground squirrels that will tug at your backpack straps and try to steal your food. If it is windy you'll find some rocks stacked up here into walls you can crouch behind. Enjoy the views of Yellowstone below you.
