Overview: This is a mix terrain circular walk that takes you through Astley Park (43 hectares of well tended parkland and ancient woods) and on into the town centre markets and then back round through housing estates. Along the way you will pass
Chorley's famous Astley Hall Museum and Art Gallery which is often referred to as the 'Jewel in Chorley's crown' and features among the Simon Jenkins book 'Britain's Best 1,000 Houses'.Astley Hall is one of the most significant buildings in the North West, with a fascinating history of families who lived there and some magnificent architecture.

There is plenty of parking on the route but there is a large free car park at Astley Hall (PR7 1NP - follow the signs when you get close as the satnav tends to want to take you into the park a different route). The route takes in some of the FTF Shark cache series as well as others - If you are planning on doing the FTF series make sure you read all the logs prior to setting out as some are puzzle caches. One of the hardest on route was FTF Shark - Plasmastorm (GC2GWEJ) - 20 minutes of hunting to find this!!

Astley Hall

The hall is situated in pleasant grounds which are fully accessible and there are areas to purchase refreshments as well. Behind the hall is large pond and it's a pleasant place to just sit and relax. Of course for geocaches there is also a cache at this location!

Asltey Hall Park

The surrounding parkland of Astley Hall is a mix of playing fields and woodland. There are well laid out public paths and the park area is a favourite with dog owners. You can navigate through the park towards Chorley town centre, passing the war memorial along the way.

Chorley Boys Monument

As you head along the route you will pass the new war memorial. It's a nice monument but a somewhat odd place for it to reside as it sits withing the confines of a commercial area. The monument pays tribute to the Chorley Boys who fell during the Great War.
