Marsh Walk is a row of several restaurants, many of them offering delicious local seafood dishes. There is a nice long boardwalk where visitors can see the saltwater marsh and various wildlife and birds that inhabit it.

Brookgreen Gardens is part botanical garden, part zoo, and part outdoor art museum. The expansive botanical gardens have beautiful sculptures around every corner. You will see many different types of sculptures ranging from nymphs to animals. Brookgreen Gardens also has a zoo with animals that are native to the Lowcountry like owls, alligators, river otters and turkeys. There is also a new butterfly house where you can see many different butterflies for an additional cost. Check the schedule before you go for the hands-on activities and tours. Stop by the Visitor Center and pick up the children's activity book before you get started. As you wander around Brookgreen Gardens, your children can answer questions in the book and get a prize when they are finished.

If you want to visit the beach but don't want to battle the crowds, make the short drive to Myrtle Beach State Park. There is a stretch of beach, campgrounds, areas for fishing, a pier to walk on, and picnic areas. There is an education center that is open during limited hours. There are also nature trails.

There is no shortage of mini golf places around Myrtle Beach. We liked Jurassic Golf for the dinosaur theme. There are two courses: one that travels up and down hills and is more suited for older children and a second course that remains flat most of the way while weaving around water features.

This seaside amusement and water park is sure to please family members of all ages. Family Kingdom amusement park includes a wooden roller coaster, log flume, bumper cars and more. The water park includes water slides, a lazy river, and splash pools.

Restaurants, shopping and entertainment can all be found at Broadway at the Beach. This is where you will find a Wonderworks, Ripley's Aquarium, NASCAR Speedpark, movie theaters, and mini golf. Kids will love Pavillion Nostalgia Park where they can ride amusement park rides including a carousel that dates back to 1912. There are also fireworks shows throughout the year.

This 3.5 hour tour is a nice way to see parts of the lowcountry that you might otherwise skip. You will see plantations, wildlife, marshlands and you will hear stories of South Carolina's history.

Barefoot Landing is not just a place to eat and shop, but it is also full of entertainment options. Alligator Adventure is one of the largest reptile zoos in the country with alligators and crocodiles, snakes, birds, and more. There is a carousel, a riverboat cruise, a mirror maze, and the T.I.G.E.R.S/Preservation Station where you can see tigers of different ages. There are boardwalks connecting different sections of the entertainment complex where you might spy a turtle catching some sun or a fish jumping out of the water.
