Overview: So what if the euro is up and the dollar is down? That doesn’t mean you should skip a trip to Europe. You can still find great deals, even in pricey places. In London the secret is simple: knowing where the bargains are. It’s common knowledge that many of London’s greatest museums—the British Museum, V&A, National Gallery, Tate Modern—don’t charge admission, but there are some lesser-known freebies too.

Tips: Spring and fall. Summer can be humid and crowded. Annual highlights include the Chelsea Flower Show in May; the Wimbledon tennis fortnight in June; the Proms, a series of Royal Albert Hall concerts that run from summer through September; October’s London Film Festival; and Guy Fawkes night on November 5. While in town, act like a Londoner and always have your "brolly to the ready"—there’s a reason U.K. residents talk about the weather so much.
