Garmin eTrex® H GPS

I am considering buying my first GPS device, the Garmin eTrex® H GPS, from LLBean @ http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... -sub1&np=Y

Does this come with cords to connect to my MacBook? Will I need third party software to get my data into Google Maps?

You can download the Garmin Connector Plug-in using the link on the "create trip" page at EveryTrail (click on the second option). Once you have that plug-in installed you can directly upload GPS tracks to EveryTrail. Just follow the steps in the create trip process. Hope this helps.

Also check out GPSBabel.org. This program will allow you to convert from one GPS language to the other. Robertlipe, the author, is a mac fan.

The SetupGPSConnercor is a Windows application. The poster is on Macintosh and I am also. I am new and want to upload from my Garmin 400t to EveryTrail. Even though it is a different Garmin model, the process should be the same. How do you do that with a Macintosh?

Pls try to use the Garmin Connector Plugin: go to "Create Trip", then to "Upload from Garmin GPS" and follow the steps. Pls let us know if that works, as there have been some issues with the Garmin Connector plugin recently.

I use an eTrex H regularly and I love it. However, getting it to interface with my laptop was initially a hassle. It doesn't come with a computer cable...I had to order the cable and MapSource software from Garmin. The computer cable also needed a USB adaptor since the end that goes into the computer is pretty old (nine pin....I don't know what it's called). So I wound up spending as much on the computer cable set up as I did on the eTrex itself. But now that I have it set up, it works great. I have replaced my eTrex about a couple of months ago with another one.....downloaded my tracks and waypoints and off I went....zero learning curve.

i picked up a usb cable that connect dirrectly to my e trex h and worked excellently
