Spot II

Postby ncalcamper on Mon Dec 20, 2010 9:04 pm

Hi,

I'm planning on doing the JMT next summer and really want to record my trip with EveryTrail. For safety reasons, I'm probably going to get a Spott II satellite messenger and was really excited when I learned that EveryTrail was partnering with Spot to do their tracking website (spotadventure). The and instructions and the forum over at Spot are not as good as EveryTrail and I was hoping I could hear from folks regarding their experience with tracking a trip with their Spot. Here are my questions:

1. Can I track and create an elevation profile with Spot? I don't see elevation profiles on spotadventure and the one example of a trip using Spot here did not have an elevation profile tracked.

2. Are there any function differences between using the spotadventure website vs. EveryTrail for uploading a trip using a Spot?

3. I know Spot tracking can have hiccups. Is this huge thing for uploading a trip to either Spotadventure or EveryTrail?

4. Is there a manual somewhere that I can download on using Spot II and uploading to either spotadventure or EveryTrail? Or better yet! A YouTube video!

Thanks in advance. NCC

If it's your life that's the concern, rather than sharing your track, you'll want to avoid the SPOT messenger in favor of a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). Technologies in SPOT vs PLB are quite different in reliability:
