Iphone 3.0 crashing and not uploading trips

Postby ndimmick on Sat Jan 02, 2010 8:27 pm

I took a 6 mile hike a couple days ago during which the 3.0 app crashed multiple times. It crashed when taking some pictures, when switching map modes, when playing or pausing music, when pausing the trip to use another app, etc. I've recorded and uploaded a few other trips before this without incident.

After my trip, I have been unable to upload the trip, though another test trip uploads just fine. The first time I tried to upload the problem trip, it made it through 5 or 6 of the pictures before crashing. When I try to upload now, the app hangs at "Started upload process" and never progresses. If I rename the trip and try again, it makes it to "Creating trip on server" and crashes.

While I'm bummed that I may loose the track, I'm more disappointed that I'll loose the geotag info on the photos since Everytrail doesn't save this to the photos (a flaw I was not aware of at the time.)

Any suggestions for this?
Thanks,
Nick

Update:

It appears that my trip was mostly uploaded after all. It does not show up in the list of "My Trips", but the pictures show up in "My Photos." I can access the whole trip via these photos, but can't get to it otherwise. I added it to "My Favorites", but it won't show up there either. The address for the trip is http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=454035

I would like to know how I can claim this orphaned trip so that it show up in "My Trips" and can be edited by me. I don't understand how this happened, but I assume the track file got corrupted during the many crashes that occurred while tracking.

I did download the GPX file, geotag my photos and upload everything as a new trip, but this doesn't explain what went wrong with the first one.

My problem is nearly the same as ndimmick's case. EveryTrail 3 crashed while uploading my recent trip of Jan 2. I found uploaded photos but one or two photos are missing. And that trip does not appear in the list of my trip.
Also, EveryTrail 3 often crashes while saving photos locally.

I use iPhone 3G(8G memory).

These trips should now be visible. They were never marked as "completed"

I've got about the same problem, as well. Did some snowshoeing yesterday and had the app crash when I tried to upload it. Now the saved trip on my iPhone says "not yet uploaded." If I try to upload it again, it just stays on the "Started upload process" screen.

I see that, like @ndimmick, one of the photos I took shows up in my EveryTrail account on this web site and has the trip associated with it. But the trip doesn't show up under my trips, and the other three photos I took during the trip can't be found.

There may be a corrupted photo in the trip. We have submitted a new update which should correct this problem.

The ability to delete photos in-app, included in the update I downloaded yesterday, fixed the problem for me. Thanks.

Unfortunately the same for me! After crashing the first time and several attempts deleting photos and renaming the title, I ended up with this not completed trip, which does not appear on my list http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=475593

It is a pity because it has been a very good application during the trip :-(

Hi Ikom et Al,

Sorry for the inconvenience on this issue. You can make a trip appear in 'My Trips' by marking it as complete. Here's how to do that:

When you are viewing the trip click 'Add a Story' or 'Edit Story' if you have already added one. On this page click 'Done' to mark it as complete. You can also get to this page by clicking 'Edit Description' from your list of trips in 'My Trips'.

Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else. Went on a once-in-a-lifetime hike, recorded the track and photos with EveryTrail. (I had previously turned on the "Save photos to camera roll" option, but apparently the recent EveryTrail update turned it off...so the photos were only in EveryTrail.)

Naturally, when I returned home and tried to upload the trip - epic fail. It uploaded 4 or 5 photos, then crashed.

Try again, hangs.

When this happened before I could rename the hike and try the upload again. However, that doesn't work any more ... if I rename the hike and try to upload, the Everytrail app crashes without uploading anything at all.

I had my "real" GPS with me too, so I could live without the GPS track. However, I didn't have my real camera, so I really want to get the photos. How can I salvage at least some of this disaster?

This is the second time I've tried to use the EveryTrail app, and the second time it's failed completely. It's going to be quite difficult to convince me to trust this thing again. Figuring out how to retrieve the photos out of my iPhone would be a good start.

HELP!!!!

...Sam
