Vertical up/down numbers have changed dramatically

Postby RNMixon on Sun Nov 27, 2011 8:31 pm

I've noticed that the the vertical up and vertical down measured on my iPhone 4 with EveryTrail has change drastically.

I did the same trip (mountain biking) on Aug 13 and Oct .

Aug 13 shows 741 up and 761 down.

Oct 22 shows 3363 up and 3609 down.

It does not look like a feet versus meters issue. The only thing I know that changed was that I upgraded to iOS 5 inbetween.

Any other ideas on what could be causing this?

Thank you - Richard

It seems that elevations are fluctuating greatly with iOS5 for some reason. We save the data that the GPS chip reports us, and did not change how we save that, so it must be something with how the iOS5 apple software sends the data now.

Chris,

Thanks for the response. I guess that explaisn what I 'm seeing.

Also, the iPhone EveryTrail app shows different numbers than the web site does.

For example on today's ride it shows:
  • 3157: total feet up
  • 3213: total feet down

But the web site shows
  • 1624: Vertical Up
  • 1680: Vertical Down
http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1434182&code=95b058d3bd4ffaceb31f269416b7dae2

Or is "Vertical Up" a different measure than "total feet up" ??

Thank you !

Hi,
I'd like to bring that topic back to the top as I'm experiencing the same issue.

Logging my last MTB Trip on an iPhone 4s using EveryTrail Pro 4.3.4, I get :
Total m up : 1155
Total m Down : 1148
Image

Checking out this same trip on the EveryTrail website after uploading, I get :
Vertical up : 696 m
Vertical Down : 689 m
Image

Knowing the trip and having crosschecked with other tools, the real values are close to the ones given on the website, i.e. approx 700m up/down.

Could you have a look at that and keep my posted please? I very much like EveryTrail but when Mountain-biking elevation is quite important to me and I don't see why the results are different on the iPhone and the website.

thanks a lot.
