Fixing the "END" point of a hike

Postby TheBreen on Thu May 10, 2012 9:42 pm

I stupidly forgot to stop tracking at the end of my hike and accidentally added a couple of miles by car to the end of the trip. The trip should have ended at the same place it started. Is there a way to fix this?

It turns out you CAN edit the end point of your track, at least here on the web (not in the app itself). Log in and go to the trip you want and you'll see a map of your trip on the left and buttons on the right to edit or trim your track. I chose to trim mine.

Click the button, then click on the map to drop a pin. You'll drag the pin on the map to create a selection box, then click another button to delete everything within the selection box. Trim the selection as close as practical, but you don't have to be perfect. Once you're done trimming, you can edit the actual points on the map, too.

In my case I zoomed in on the map, selected "Google Hybrid" so I could see the terrain, too, then dragged both the starting and ending points to the parking lot where my hike actually began and ended. The benefit of this, of course, is that you get more accurate results for things like timing and distance of your hike.

I hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation!

Right from the start of your help here, i can't see what you describe. After i logged in, i clicked on "my everytrail" located at the top of the homepage in a blue banner. Located the trip i wanted to edit the endpoint on, and clicked on the listing which is located under "trips", not "guides". After that, there is no "trip on the left, and buttons on the right". as you describe.

The website isn't very user friendly, no complete and descriptive walkthroughs, no guides, no video tutorials, no e-mail support for help with your technical problems with the maps and trails you create. In the forums, a big chunk of peoples issues and questions go unanswered. Very unfortunate.
