iPhone Application

Postby chris on Mon Sep 15, 2008 3:45 pm

We are currently in the process of launching an EveryTrail iPhone which will allow users to create EveryTrail trips from anywhere. Our application turns your iPhone into a GPS tracking and Photo Geotagging device, where we show you your trip stats (Speed, Duration, Distance) as well as your current location on a map. We allow you to take pictures with the iPhone camera and add those to your trip as well. When you are finished, simply click the "save" button, enter a title, select your activity and enter a description. You are also able to view and edit your photos at this time before uploading the trip to EveryTrail. And that's it! No more wires, you don't even need a computer to create the trip.

We have submitted the application to the Apple AppStore, and are awaiting approval, so please be patient. If you have any questions, suggestions, or problems, please post below.

Thanks!
The EveryTrail team

We submitted the app last week.... keeping our fingers crossed. Hopefully the process will be smoother for us than in the story you linked to :)

Why why why do website owners write pages and apps for only iphones when S60 devices far far far outsell iphones?

We'd love for someone to create an S60 application ;)

Seriously, we have created a generic API that enables developers to create apps on any platform, in order to capture and upload trips directly from GPS enabled devices. If interested, pls get in touch with us.

We currently have Windows Mobile and iPhone apps (the latter coming soon), but we'd like to get on Blackberry's and Symbian phones too. We just need a little help with that.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I downloaded the iPhone application and did a test walk with it, see my notes here http://geoffjones.com/2008/09/19/evertr ... he-iphone/
Or on EveryTrail at http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=51776

It is excellent :-) well done guys!!!

Biggest problem for me is going to be the wretched battery life on the iPhone! Other slight snags:-
a) Loses the elevation data when uploading to Everytrail
b) Should be a blinking light to let you know when it has good satellite reception.
c) should auto dim the screen.
d) smallest font sizes should be increased slightly

Keep the good work up.

Is there any way of getting my photos out of EveryTrail now? As they don't appear on the iphone camera roll, in the past I have always put them on Flickr and then to EveryTrail.

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for your feedback! We will collect all feedback and start working on improvements.

Regarding your questions about exporting your photos, great idea. It's currently not supported, but we'll add it to the list.

That's great about the photos, and you don't have to wait for iTunes :-) also, can I automatically create a Twitter when a new trail is uploaded?

Sincerest congrats on getting the iPhone app through Apple. I was worried that their moratorium on 'turn-by-turn navigation software' might have caused you problems.

Unfortunately it doesn't work on my iPod Touch 2.1. Is the app intentionally designed for the GPS enabled iPhone only? I still think there are benefits to getting the app running on the Touch, and I'd love to be able to test it out and praise it to bits on my website.

Cheers, Stuart
