GPS Tracking

I just signed up for Every Trail. I like many of the features. I used Every Trail for the 1st time yesterday. The GPS in my iPhone gave me 6.1 miles on the hike. Zooming in on the map it appears I am walking in circles and zig zagging greatly, which adds artificial mileage. Others on this same hike using Every Trail have reported 5.4 and 5.3 miles which I believe to be closer to reality. Is this a problem with my iPhone GPS or on Easy Trail's end? I had a strong signal. Should I adjust the pings to almost constant to help this? For running and walking I have alo used Endomondo, Map My Walk, and RunKeeper all with similar GPS innacurate mileage. If anyone can help me or make a suggestion I would appreciate it. Thanks.

There are some changes you can make in the app (accuracy thresholds, etc), but often times GPS signal strength isn't great on the phone.
