Center for walks across the Lancashire moors between Darwen, Rivington and White Coppice including Withnell Moor and Great Hill. Withnell Mill, Brinscall, Abbey Village and Withnell Fold are the nearest villages, all steeped in history.

Our plan to watch the football was called off due to ice on the pitch so we walked up healy nab.
When we finally arrived at the top the view was great - Preston north end, Blackpool tower, selafield and the lake district could all be seen!
A decent walk on flat and hilly ground that picks up a few caches along the way. Prepare for it to be blustery at the top of the Tower.
This is a figure of 8 walk that has many caches along the way (including some of note : I.e. Christmas Cache). If you are going off the route you will need to plan ahead as there is some land that is open for public shooting along the way (we avoided it). This is a good mix of track, road, hils, field and forested areas. We did it in pouring rain but...
This was a chance to re-visit some of the wonderful countryside we enjoyed previously when we tackled the 1st "Legend" series of caches and which has to date, not been surpassed in terms of the overall geocaching experience.The main objective for the day was to take in Darwen Tower so we could see for ourselves the new and improved "lid" and what a cracking job has been done - it's back looking...
A steep walk over rough ground and care needs to be taken no to twist an ankle along the way (as the good lady did)! There are circa 10 plus caches along this route and more if you want to extend it slightly. A good walk following the Withnell Circular cache series. Withnell Local Nature reserve stands on what
was 'The Walker's Railway', the line from Chorley to Cherry Tree near
Blackburn. It went through the villages of Heapey, Brinscall and Withnell
before closing to passengers in 1960. The Withnell Circular cache series is one
