This is a great hike with about 3000 feet of total climb and about a 6-7 hour round trip. The summit of north Moat is only 3200 feet, but don't let that fool you. The 360 degree views are fantastic at the summit and you get great views across the entire white mountains. We did the loop counter clockwise, which puts the bulk of the climb between mile 2...

Mon Feb 16th"Today was one of those rare, calm days on the summit that occurs at most a handful of times each winter. In fact, today was by far the nicest and calmest day that my shift has seen since winter started. Winds literally went completely calm for a period of time this afternoon. As much as the staff on the summit loves the extreme weather that we see so often, getting...

Frankenstein Cliff - Arethusa Falls

4.9 miles
Since we visited Crawford Notch State Park on Labor Day, we saw plenty of other people at the trail head. But luckily for us, not too many wanted to visit Arethusa Falls via the Frankenstein Cliff Trail. The kids were curious about why the cliff was named Frankenstein and supposition (which lasted most of the trek up the cliff) ran from Mary Shelley's book to the cliff being "ugly and like a square...

We ascended by the Falling Waters Trail, crossed the ridge, and descended by the Greenleaf/Old Bridle Path trails.Recent trip reports had us a little skittish in regards to snow, but it appears a lot of melting has occurred since the May 13 report.  The snow was very patchy and easily traversed with bare boots. The weather was perfect today--warm, sunny, and a gentle breeze. Visibility on the ridge trail was just about perfect--Mount...

This is a pretty strenuous loop that traverses the summit of Chocorua.  We took our Brittany Spaniel and he was fine overall, although he did need some help up some parts of the Carter Ledge Trail. Our 9.8 mile 3400 foot round trip started and ended at the National Forest parking area ($3) just off route 16 behind a general store.    We ascended on the Piper trail to the Nickerson Ledge trail to...

First Day in Crawford Notch and we decided to tackle Jack's first 5 Mile hike with over 1250 feet of straight elevation gain.  We camped the night before at the Dry River Campground which was very well suited for this hike due to its proximity to the trailhead.... Basically, the view from the campsite was the Frankestein Cliffs.  Crawford Notch is a great notch that I haven't explored much before as a...

If you're going to try and climb Mt. Washington during the summer I would recommend starting at sunrise. We started around 8 that morning and the weather started to collect pretty quick around noon and we turned back around Lion Head. Next time we'll know and I will be back to conquer this one.

Tuckerman's Ravine is a great experience.
Try to get there as early in the season (March, early April) as you can for the best snow. Be prepared for world-class terrible weather, of course.
