Cross Canyon hike

I drove out to Superior thinking I might be able to drive on some dirt roads out there or maybe find a place to hike.  I was only able to go about 20 yards along the first road I tried, so I got out of the truck and walked.  It was a nice walk and I was rewarded with great views of Superior far below.

Apache Leap hike

This was a hike from No. 9 road to Apache Leap, which is the cliff just east of Superior, Arizona.  The top of the cliff is about 1800 feet above Superior and provides a view for miles to the west..  The trail is marked with closely spaced cairns.  It does not seem to be heavily used and is somewhat overgrown by catclaw acacia and holly bushes.  Wear protection or take pruning shears....

May 31 2009.  Ran into a wreck recovery team looking for a rolled over vehicle.  Decided to help them go find it and see if we can help.

Beautiful Hike covers 2000 feet elevation in 2.25 miles.  Challenging and fun.  Not a hike to do by yourself as cairns can be difficult to follow. A well-intentioned vandal has put arrows to help guide but frequently contradict the cairns.  Cairn trail and arrows will meet up.  Can be windy at the top, make sure to wear pants as you will be crawling up rocks.

Battle Axe Road to White Canyon Wilderness

I wanted to visit the White Canyon Wilderness area, but could only find verbal descriptions of how to get there.  I like to look at a map, myself.  I pieced together information from several sources and drove out there yesterday.  It's a beautiful area and I will certainly be going back as soon as weather permits (it's raining today).  I didn't get any good pictures on this trip, but they will give...

White Canyon, White Canyon Wilderness Area

This was my first hike in White Canyon.  The trail is not heavily traveled and cairns are sparse, so it's sometimes hard to follow.  If you can find it, the trail makes it easier to get around large boulders and deep parts of the stream.  The scenery is beautiful and well worth the effort.  I've included lots of photos to try to give an idea of what it looks like, but my...

Hike near Apache Leap

I went for a hike near Apache Leap, just to see what was out there.  I saw some interesting stuff, and the strong wind coming up the cliff face felt great after hiking up there in the June heat.  Well, it was probably below 100, which is cool around here.

Quick 4 miles. Dogs have issues scrambling up the boulders. Pants are needed as you will be using your knees.
