Popular Trips in Whidbey Island
Had a great time riding the trails with great friends today. The sea breeze and tree cover was sure pleasant on this bright, sunny day. At one point, saw a family of deer. Also scouted out the campground. Looks very nice. Enjoyed our sack lunch at the battery, taking in the amazing views. Rode some more after lunch. Got a little disoriented, but eventually found our way back. The time went too...
Morning crabbing and fishing trip on Puget Sound. We set the pots early and within an hour or so had five keepers. We also set lines and trolled for salmon, but had no luck.
Very quick well maintained trail. Great for a walk with the dogs, or for some great pictures. Now I only did the basic trail as I am currently overweight and am just getting back into hiking. However there were two points where the trail did branch off and head up the mountain. I will be trying those trails soon, and will post a description of them.
This is a very pretty hike. Along this hike you can turn up the Goose Rock Summit Trail and hike up to the top of Goose Rock, but with the exception of some climbing on the back side of the rock, this is a pretty flat trail. Now you can branch off to a trail (can't remember the name) that will take you under Highway 20 into Deception Pass State Park, or...
This is another great walk on well-maintained trails with with views of Lighthouse Point to the north, West Point to the west and the bridge area to the east. Begin either at the bridge , North Beach Parking Lot, or West Beach Parking Lot (I prefer starting this one at the bridge, but it does mean finishing the walk with an ascent).
Maximum trail elevation is approximately 170 feet and lowest is sea-level. ...
Begin either at the Pass Lake parking lot, or from the Rosario Road trailhead or at the end of Ginnett Road as shown on map. The trail follows old roadways, fire-roads and logging roads for much of the route. Although this trail network is one of the very few in the northern half of the park, it only begins to show what lies in the parklands beyond. Along the way you will see separate...
Before the Deception Pass bridge was completed in 1935, the only auto-traffic between Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands was via a small ferryboat that ran from Hoypus Point (on the Whidbey Side) to Yokeko Point (on the Fidalgo Side). Some of the old Hoypus Point ferry dock concrete bulkheads remain and can be seen in a few of these photos. Hoypus point is entirely within the southern boundaries of the 4500 acre Deception...
A nice walk during the off-season. Great scenery and limited elevation change. Much of this path is wheelchair accessible due to paved paths. The coastal dune area is somewhat unique in the Pacific Northwest and a special treat.
Sharpe Park affords well maintained trails through varied environment, including woodlands, marshlands and balds. This walk terminates at Sares Head with breathtaking scenic panoramic views at the 400' elevation of the bluff.
