Virgin Islands National Park occupies roughly 7,000 acres on the island of Saint John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and extends to a few small sites on neighboring St. Thomas as well. In addition to its miles of hiking trails through tropical forests, the park is also well-known for terrific scuba diving and snorkeling. Access to the park is facilitied by ferries, which run regularly from Red Hook and Charlotte Amalie on Saint Thomas to Cruz Bay, Saint John.
One of the park's most popular attractions is Trunk Bay, which features a white sand beach and underwater snorkeling trail. Two trails take visitors through sugar plantation ruins: the "Cinnamon Bay Nature Trail" and the "Bourdeaux Mountain Trail," the latter of which leads hikers to the highest point on the island (1,277 ft above sea level), which affords spectacular views. However, according to Wikipedia, the most visited hike is the Reef Bay Trail, which "paves the way to witnessing the beauty of the surrounding forestlands, remnants of sugar mills, historical petroglyph rock carvings, a spring-fed waterfall and reflection pool, and a chance for rest and relaxation or snorkeling excitement at Genti Bay." (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Islands_National_Park).
The park features two campgrounds, Maho Bay and Cinnamon Bay. The best time to visit is December through April.

The hills absolutely killed me, my calves felt like they were going to explode. I walked/ran many...
