A classic Bernegger hike. Off of Rt. 41 in CT, you take Under Mountain Trail (blue blazers) up to the Riga Junction where you meet the Appalachian Trail. A mile or so later you climb up to the top of Bear Mountain. Good view, good wild blueberries. Moderate hike. The dogs loved it. Check out the pictures.

#3 Connecticut High Point | Round MountainThird high point on my way to summit all of USA high points. Started off an AMC parking lot on Mt. Washington Road in Connecticut... went into Mass then into Conn to summit Round Mountain - back down into Mass to Summit Mt. Frissell and then back down into CT to hit the CT/MA line marker.
The assent starts with the trail
to Bear Mountain, but then goes off of it to bushwack to the top, so it is steep at times. It rejoins the trail up near
the camping area just below Paradise Lost Trail.
This is not for the casual walker, but the stream and view from Black Rock, is worth the work. Black Rock can also be climbed and is about two
leads up.
During winter, Riga Road which leads from Salisbury to Washington Road is closed. This is a snowshoe hike from the gate to South Pond
From the Bear Mtn trail Parking lot on 41 (a connector to the AT) to Bear Mtn then south on the AT to Lions Head and the Bunker Hill Rd Parking lot.
