Popular Trips in Superstition Wilderness
I started out along the Carney Springs trail. When I got to the point where water used to be stored, I saw a side trail. I followed it for a while to see where it went. It led to a small natrual cave on the slopes of the mountains. I thought I might also be able to find an abandoned mine that is up there somewhere, but I couldn't.
I brought Logan & Lyndsee on a hike up Peralta Trail. Great weather and a good time for all of us (some scratched and nicked knees for the kids). Lyndsee did great on the hike. Logan is just like a mountain goat going up and down.
This hike starts at the trailhead to the Peralta Trail in the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix. We proceeded to follow the Peralta trail to Fremont Saddle where we enjoyed an excellent view of Weavers Needle and the valley below. Our route back was along the Geronimo Cave trail. This trail is a lot less traveled than the Peralta but parallels it to the east. Carins mark the trail, so it is not...
Started at the First Water Trailhead. We had a second car parked at the marina at Canyon Lake, so this was a one way trip. Found a Garmin 60csx GPS on the trail about 1/2 mile into the hike. About 3/4 mile into the hike we caught up with the owners and returned it to them. They were happy to have it back. Recent rains had several of the washes running, so...
A hike up to Freemount Saddle with a view of Weaver's Needle. Very nice trip. There was a lot of rain so far this year and the desert is in bloom!
Hiked Weavers needle, an old volcano remnant. The center core of the volcano lava dried, and the rest of the volcano just wore away over time. 13 miles, about 7 hours.
Hiiked Apache Canyon today, and I have to admit that it was not easy. There were three places where I wished that I had a harness and ropes. Unfortunately I did not, and I was by myself. Note to anyone doing this: 1) Don't go by yourself this is a lonely place. There are too many things that can go wrong, and some really good falls. I kept thinking "If I fall here, will...
10 miles round trip, about 5 hours of hiking. Nice trail, and the canyon was really neat. It had rained two days previous so the canyon was full of water. I went as far as I could go without going swimming. The canyon must hold water all year long because I saw minnows in some of the deeper pools.
Hiked from First Water trailhead to Battleship Mountain. All was good except that I couldn't find out how to get to the summit. Looking at the pictures online it's obvious, but when you are standing there....... not really. I would like to do this again with someone who has been to the top to show the way. Oh, one other thing. WEAR LONG PANTS. The off trail scramble from Boulder Canyon to the peak...
