Went hiking with a friend in the Superstition Mountains just outside of Phoenix. We picked the Peralta Canyon trail and couldn't have been happier with the decision. The canyon is lush and green with desert vegetation (it really is). The payoff at the trail terminus is excellent. The trail is moderate. Bring 2 liters of water and a hat. Don't forget your camera, either. Take your time and enjoy the sights on the...

Gradual ascent through beautiful scenery. Historic and visually stunning destination. I so wanted to continue farther back Superstition canyon...
I wanted to hike this trail for a couple of reasons. First, I hadn't been on it for 2 or 3 years. Second, it had rained all of the previous week, and I knew there would be some waterfalls to see and hear.I don't think this is an official Forest Service trail, but a lot of people seem to hike on it. I only went to the halfway point on this hike,...
As you travel along Apache Trail towards Canyon Lake, as you pass the Weaver's Needle viewpoint parking area, there is an impressive looking cliff high up to the left of the road. I went up a canyon on the east side of the mountain to get to the top of the cliff. The views are great from up there. It isn't a difficult climb, but if you are the type of person...
The Superstition Mountains have eluded mountain bikers for years and will most likely keep on eluding for years to come. There is, however, a gem of a trail that skirts the boundary, giving mountain bikers a taste of that forbidden wilderness. After 8 years in the valley I finally found Lost Goldmine.I arrived at the trailhead on Cloudview early, clipped in and headed toward the rising sun. With six...
Doug, Nell, Johnny & I hiked the 10 miles back to Reavis Ranch. It's about 9 1/2 miles back into the Superstitions. There isn't much shade, so it's an early spring/late fall hike. Make sure you tank up before you get started since there isn't much chance for water until you get to Reavis Ranch.
I wanted to hike this trip again after getting my GPS data logger so I would have a map of this trail. I wanted a map because this area of Google Maps was low resolution. About the time I made this hike, though, Google made this area high resolution. It wasn't a wasted hike, though, because it's a beautiful area. This trail is one of the most poplular in the Superstition Wilderness...
Rock Creek Trail from Miles trailhead to Swede Camp Spring
This is a rarely visited trail in the eastern end of the Superstition Wilderness near Globe Arizona. It is no longer an official trail but once was trail #195.
The best time for this hike is fall and spring. It's too hot during the summer and there's danger of snow in the winter.
This hike requires heavy long pants and a long sleeve shirt...
This was another slow and easy hike in the Tonto National Forest. I was hoping to get up near the Flatiron but didn't make it in time. A hiker has been lost for a few days and emergency crews had shut down The Lost Dutchman State Park where I was hoping to start the hike. I had to start off First Water Rd to Jacobs Crosscut to finally get to Siphon Draw....
