Nice, little hike with great views at the top.
We had a straightforward geocaching plan, then we went off to investigate a fun multi-cache that wasn't on the plan, and...eventually found the trail we wanted again. Beautiful place to wander!
Fun, easy hike with some great views. Grabbed some geocaches on the return hike. This hike is described in detail in Jerry Schad's book, Afoot and Afield In San Diego County. Recorded with my Garmin Oregon 450 GPSr.
explored the PCT up to the ridgeline above escarpment and then foster point which has cool viewfinder.
also hiked up to the Desert View picnic area, in addition to the loop. and on the last section through the campground just meandered through the sites instead of taking the road.

incredible views of all the east county mountains, and nearby stephenson peak. got a tick!
started instead at the entrance to laguna campground, up to chula vista reservoir, then came down steep overgrown trail on the west side of lightning ridge.
