Another great hike with a chance to take a dip in a cool mountain pool towards the end. Spectacular views at Chimney Rock and Cavalry Rock. Also, some evidence of a forest fire along the ridge after Chimney Rock. I highly recommend this hike if you're in the area.
This is a short, but steep trail leading to some beautiful 80+ foot waterfalls.

In my opinion, one of the best hikes in Virginia. There is a bunch of fun rock scrambling near the top and some gorgeous views!!!
Lots of waterfalls and swimming holes here.
This is a favorite swimming hole for many at JMU.

Well, this backpacking trip was supposed to be a fun-filled weekend with my dad on the AT. Unfortunantly, in the first half mile, my dad fractured his ankle and couldn't go on. I took him back to the car, he headed to the ER and I headed back on the trail. The remaining trip went well. There are not a lot of spectular views on this section. I did see some birds...
My second loop on this trail - the hard way. Up Cedar Run and down Whiteoak. The falls were beautiful and the weather wasn't bad untill about 2/3's the way through the hike. All hikes should end with a swim in cold spring water!
This was my second time doing this hike and the first time was over a yera and a half ago. I completely forgot how much elevation change there was! It was a quite slow and leisurely walk with Don and my parents.I took a bunch of photos! They are on Flickr.
Northern Virginia Hiking Club - www.nvhc.comThis is a 10 mile linear hike with elevation gain of 2000 feet in the southern section of Shenandoah National Park. Starting from Swift Run Gap, hike south along the AT, crossing over Hightop and Flattop Mountains to Simmons Gap.Watch the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4yL8XalFMM&feature=channel
