Fantastic backcountry skiing to Bench Hut. Conditions were close to perfect with a couple of feet of snowfall the days before the trip, this was powder heaven.
This is a good, "one day" loop as long as hike start at sunrise! The trail head starts at Grandjean campground. This trip was unbelievable. It started with an extremely long uphill hike from Grandjean Campground up to above Baron Lakes. At this point, we left the trail behind for the next 5 days, and explored the magnificent Goat Creek Drainage. The off trail hiking was often very difficult, strenuous, and at times dangerously exposed, but well worth it for the incredible views and the complete isolation from all other people.
