Every year in September, volunteers hike to the top of each of the 48 peaks in New Hampshire that are above 4,000ft. From noon until 2 pm, a flag is raised atop each of the peaks to honor those who fell on September 11, 2001. My wife and I did not carry any of the flags this year, but we did hike to the top of two of the peaks (North...
Fantastic hike on a beautiful sunny day. Jim and I drove up in the morning and met up with the 4 Seasons group. We hiked the trail counter-clockwise so we could sled down the trail on the way back. Not a cloud in the sky, no wind and the views were amazing. We could have hung out on the summit all day!
Great short hike up Mt. Potash with Jim and the 4 Seasons Group. GPS batteries died about 1/2 way down the mountain. This is a really nice trail with great views at the top. Parking lot was packed with cars and we ran into several different group along the way.
Beautiful spring day for a long hike. Jim and I started out around 9:30 am and hiked the Blueberry Ledge trail to the summit of Mt. Whiteface. Barely used the microspikes for this trail but there were some icy patches along the way. The ledges were challenging but fun to climb. Fantastic views from the south side of the summit. We hung out and soaked up the sun for quite awhile. Then...
An early winter loop hike going up to Paugus Pass, then over Hibbard and Wonalancet Mtns and back down. I also hiked the "Short Cut" below Wonalancet summit.
This was one of those hiking days that make all the earlier hard work, bugs, mists, tough climbs, etc. worthwhile. The weather was perfect hiking weather. Cloudless sky, cool, visibility for miles, etc. Even the bugs were no problem. We met a few fellow hikers but it was mostly just the three of us and four small dogs. There were two stream crossings (Drake's brook) that were challenging and slowed us down...
Long hike in the White Mountains. The hike up from the terminal end of Bennet St. was great - the waterfalls on Pond Brook are fantastic! The hike down the far end was not quite as scenic, but Flat Mountain Pond is definitely worth visiting.
