San Jose Ca Geocaching Trips
A fun, flat bike ride along the levee trail. Collected 48 geocaches in the process.
The Boccardo Trail is adjacent to Alum Rock Park, but not part of it. The land just North of Alum Rock is owned by the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority, who put in the Boccardo Trail in 2007. You access it from the Todd Quick Trail in Alum Rock - and you access THAT from the parking at the bottom of the canyon. :)Boccardo is steep and exposed. It was in...
There was a new Christmas-themed geocache placed up on St. Joe's Hill, which was the perfect excuse to get out for a short hike. With the promise of being able to trade for a present from the cache, I had no trouble convincing my 6-year old to go as well.It was a pleasant little hike. No difficulties for the kid, other than the usual "Are we almost there yet?" every two minutes....
A couple weeks back, a friend (Chris) suggested that my daughter and I join he and his daughter the next time they went geocaching. We finally managed to pick a date that worked for both of us, and off we went on a remarkably temperate, foggy January Saturday morning.Almaden Quicksilver is the closest park to my house for a decent hike, so I know the park and its trails quite well. I've...
Matt, Matt's son, Ben and I had a great day caching at Arastradero. I hadn't been there since 2003, so it was good to come back.
About 3 years ago I did this hike with a group ... and failed miserably. I was incredibly out of shape and couldn't handle the vertical. I've wanted to go back and try it again for some time. Joe agreed to come along. There are three peaks in a row here ... Monument, Allison and Mission. Of the three, Mission is by far the most famous. But once you've climbed to one ......
A hike to explore this park on a drizzly day.
I took the day off today to do some hiking and geocache finding with a crew I know via the Geocachers of the Bay Area. One of the rationales for choosing this route today was to find a cache placed on a previous MLK day, but I was mainly looking for some good exercise with nice people: sammydee, DragonsWest, KendraH, bykenut. The valley was foggy today, but we were in sunshine above the...
I was overdue for some hiking, so I managed to get out today for nine miles at AQ. I got lucky and missed the rains. I had about for hours, and I was winging my route, so I decided to stop at several geocaches to give myself some destination goals. I also spent a lot of time taking photos, exploring, and stopping here and there to use up all the time. It...
We were one of ten teams competing in the inaugural Great Refuge Race at Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge. The goal was to be the first team to complete five challenge stages at different waypoints, then return to the finish line at the final coordinates. Our team consisted of myself (dubbed "team captain" somehow as I dis-organized things), Antony, Joe, Laurent, and Rebecca. We were one of the teams comprised of hikers and geocachers,...
