Running the Dish Loop near Stanford

5.6 miles
The Stanford Dish loop is a good run. The path is paved, but very steep at times (see the elevation profile!). This time, on a nice, cool September evening, I ran the extended loop, which is about 5.6 miles. When you reach the dish itself, turn left (if running clockwise) to the Alpine Rd entrance, and then trurn around to climb back up.

I've written about this route before in the context of mountain biking.  This is a very scenic but otherwise boring hike along fireroads, that vary between 5 - 15% grade with 10% being about the average.  (Fairly standard stuff.)  Great for running, unless your ankles twist easily, and/or your knees don't like running downhill.  (You can always walk on the downhill portions.)  Personally, I like to "hike/run", meaning I wear supportive hiking...

It's fire season here in Northern California.  When we drove to Pleasanton this morning, we saw a caravan of firetrucks headed north on I680, from the the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.  I don't know if it was in anticipation of things to come, or whether there's a fire they're supporting. At Shadow Cliffs Park, where this event took place, the water level is so low the boat ramps don't even...
