Stinson Beach to Mount Tamalpais Summit... and back
by Vaudesir on Mar 21, 2010
Stinson Beach, California, United States
15.2 miles
I've been meaning to do this hike for quite some time. In addition to everything nice about it (the flowers, the views, the climb, the length, the company), it just seemed meaningful.Since several of us were considering that hike, it was just a matter of picking a date. Barbara and Pavla called it, and there we went.We started on the Stinson Beach parking lot shortly after 9:30 and took Dipsea trail to...

Marin Headlands: Miwok Trail to Bonita Point
by stevelabo on May 11, 2009
Sausalito, California, United States
7.8 miles
Spectacular scenery, amazing temperature changes, panoramic views of both Mount Tamalpaias and San Francisco on this short, refreshing hike. Point Bonita is rich in nautical history dating back to late 1700s and much of the other infrastructure dates back to 1902 with the consturction of the first US military installations. Today, the military property is decommissioned and most of the buildings in the area are used for recreational purposes. Besides the visitor\'s...

Ohlone Wilderness Trail
by Vaudesir on May 09, 2009
Scotts Corner, California, United States
29.1 miles
After having hiked a portion of the Ohlone Wilderness trail from Lake Del Valle to Murietta Falls last February, I felt compelled to hike the full 28 miles of this trail, connecting Lake Del Valle to Stanford Avenue in Fremont, which is the west-facing foot of Mission Peak. This sure seemed challenging. 28 miles is long, even over two days. The climb to Rose Peak is strenuous for sure. And then, Mission Peak comes as a "bonus".After doing a...

A really nice hike through Montebello that includes Black Mountain and the Stevens Creek Nature Trail. The hike started off wonderfully with a coyote hunting gophers in the grass some distance away from me.  I was downwind of him so while he was preoccupied with getting his breakfast he ended up drifting up the ridge quite close to me. I saw two coyotes today and neither seemed very concerned with my presence.  In my past experience they...

With an extra hour of sunlight today I decided to walk along the Barbary Coast trail, a historic walk through downtown San Francisco, starting by Union Square and ending at Fisherman's Wharf.I walked through Chinatown, up to Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill, and then along Embarcadero up to Aquatic Park before getting a delicious breadbowl of crab chowder.

Orinda, California, United States
7.6 miles
A sunny, pleasant springtime hike at Briones Regional Park from Black Oak Trail to Briones Crest Trail to Table Top Trail (tons of flowers here) and back to the trailhead. There are no high peaks at Briones, but this hike has a lot more climb than you might expect: over 2000 feet of ascent over 7.6 miles. Table Top Trail has some of the best views of Mount Diablo you\'ll ever see on...

Backpacking from Stinson Beach to Mt. Tamalpais
by chris on Mar 28, 2010
Stinson Beach, California, United States
17.3 miles
Inspired by the homebrew crew (Sounds like a good EveryTrail group name...) trip last weekend, David and I decided (last minute) to sneak in a hiking trip--wait, no--a BACKPACKING trip (which basically ended up with us carrying packs much heavier than we needed).  We finally got all of our stuff together around 6pm in San Francisco and drove across the Golden Gate Bridge towards Mt. Tam.  We were trying to decide if...

Horse Heaven Trail to Mission Peak Summit
by tommangan on Nov 20, 2008
Fremont, California, United States
6.0 miles
I hiked the hard way -- up Horse Heaven Trail -- at Mission Peak Regional Preserve from the Stanford Avenue entrance just off Mission Boulevard in Fremont.  I also did this to test my new Garmin eTrex Vista CX unit to see how it would work with my iMac ... it\'s always fun trying to make PC stuff work on a Mac. Handy programs: GPS Photo LInker  -- http://www.earlyinnovations.com/gpsphotolinker/ ... -- geocodes photos based on...
