This is probably the hardest sustained climb in Silicon Valley area. It's long and steep. They had recently fixed up the fireroad. It's much smoother and the ankle twisting hazards (made up of fist size rocks) on the last half mile near the top are all gone. Recent rains have also settled the dust. And the day was cool. A perfect day for this tough run. I...

Great hike with San Jose Fit. Perfect time of the year to hike this park. Loved it!We really looked hard to find what Heather engraved on the wooden bench a few years back, but the last rain fall erased it ;^) LOL! Next time we'll bring some engraving tools!

If you've ever driven 280 and wondered what it would be like to jump out of your car and hike some of those hills, well this is your chance. And Black Mountain is (apparently) the tallest if not one of the tallest little peaks in this range. Located just outside of Los Altos, Rancho San Antonio OSP is a local favorite. The trail is fire road or wide trail throughout. August may...

Hidden Villa is a educational organization that uses a farm to teach about the environment and social justice.  While the main entrance is the starting place for most hikes, we started at the small Rhus Ridge Rd parking lot (8-10 cars and no facilities). The traihead here is about 1.25 miles from the main entrance. This hike is 8.3 miles with about 2300 ft of elevation change. I would rate it as...

Welcoming the New Year at Rancho San Antonio
by steverod on Jan 01, 2011

4.3 miles
A gentle excursion to welcome in the New Year with a hike. We had wanted to go up on the Skyline Ridge but the clouds were low and the wind was high, which was a particular concern since we had the Three-Year-Old with us. On the bright side, the overcast weather meant that Rancho San Antonio, normally overrun with visitors, actually had some parking spots. This route tried to skip past Deer Hollow...

We saw a wildcat just before the farm and the very aptly name start of wildcat canyon trail.  Lots of other hikers commented on Ava and on seeing tiny baby footprints going back and forth zig-zagged along the trial.
