2.4 mile trail near Oro Valley, Arizona
Community Trips
Twelve of us hiked this roughly 6 mile trail to the Romero Pools. As the pictures show, the water was flowing nicely - which isn't the usual case here in the Sonoran Desert.
This trail heads up the Finger Rock Canyon and intersects the Pima Canyon Trail at Mount Kimball. Starting at an elevation of 3000 ft, this is a tough hike with a gain in elevation greater than 4000 ft in approximately four miles. However, the trail is well worth the effort with great views of the Finger Rock Canyon and the city of Tucson. At an elevation of 7255 ft, Mount Kimball offers...
This trail head starts at the same
place as the Finger rock trail head. Where those trails intersect you
will stay to the right. You will cross water on several occasions.
There are stepping stones in place to facilitate your crossing. We
enjoyed great views of Tucson valley, Finger rock and other ridges in
the Catalinas. The rock formations are quite varied in colors and
composition. Considerable amounts of mica and quartz gave...
Our weekend hike with the kids to Seven Falls in Sabino Canyon.
Catalina State Park has several trails you can take from the parking lot. This day we did two of them. The Romero Canyon trail to the pools. On the way back we did the loop trail as well. It was a very nice day and the wildflowers were beginning to give a show. As a result there were many, many people on the trail.

It only became somewhat overgrown after the northern most waypoint. Expect lots of crowds near the trailhead on weekends. Further along the trail, I passed other hikers approximately every 30 minutes. Although there was 2000 feet gain in elevation, most of this gain was...
I started at the Uppermost trailhead for Butterfly trail. There is ample parking in a paved lot at the trailhead. Also there are benches and a bathroom (clean but an outhouse none the less). The trail starts at a small road but the trail then deviates to the left. Watch for the sign. The trail mostly goes downhill beginning with tall pine and a view of the San Manuel Valley. You will...
Hike from the Finger Rock trailhead. Has a great view of most of Tucson, and a mine underneath... will return with flashlights.
