Took a short day hike with Vanessa through the Purisima Creek Redwood Open Space Preserve along the the Whittemore Gulch Trail and back along the Harkins Ridge Trail. We stopped for lunch along the ridge and had a tasty Avocado as well as a little bag of trail mix.
First training carrying 35lb. pack for the 22nd Annual Bataan Memorial Death March in New Mexico on 3/27. This is a wonderful hike that usually takes me no more than three hours without the weight. There are terrific views from up top and nice redwoods along the way.

You'll see a year-round creek, huge redwoods and doug fir, the occasional deer and a lot of plants. Flowers in the spring. We usually play a game that involves counting the number of banana...

Today my two girls and I went out exploring with some great friends of ours. They have two daughters about the same age and were looking for an excuse to get out and explore. We started this hike with a quick review of...

A 14 mile (20km) hike at Purisma, heading down from the top Northern Skyline parking area on Harkins Ridge trail, up the Purisma Creek road and back via the Craig Britton trail. This hike adds in the Borden Hatch Mill & Grabtown Gulch trails for an extra 5 miles.
Hike at Purisima Creek Open Space Preserve during a weekend of heavy rain and hail. A beautiful place with some great trails. See my full write up on my blog.http://randyswaypoints.blogspot.com/2011/03/purisima-pummeling.html
