Aspen Trailhead to Rocking Chair Dam

Portland, Oregon, United States
12.6 miles
In researching a route through Forest Park I saw a picture from a trail on this site of a sign that read "Rocking Chair Dam 6.0" miles. I looked up information for Rocking Chair Dam and it took awhile but I finally found a brief reference to it in Afoot & Afield Portland and Vancouver.Intrigued - I set out to find the dam. While the route I took places a loop at...

Fall Season Walk Japanese Garden of Portland

Fall walk through the Portland Japanese Garden.First clear day following several days of rain. Almost too late this year to see the garden in one of its most beautiful seasons. The light was stunning; a light mist was burning off as we began our walk, giving the atmosphere a glowing radiance. The Garden is one of the finest examples of its kind outside of Japan. A source of civic pride in Portland, it...

Started at Garden Home Rec Center and walked down to Tualatin. Several gaps exist, but the one on the busy road has a nice sidewalk (92nd to Greenwood Inn) and the one without a sidewalk is on a low traffic road (74th from Bonita Rd. to Durham Park).

Wildwood Trail - Ridge Trail to Aspen Trail - 40 Mile Loop

Rare nice day this spring so I had to walk! The trail was really muddy (I wear Keen Arroyo sandals and it was a real challenge to keep my feet dry and mud free, but I did!). The leaves are just starting to come out so there were still several views of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.

This is a greenway on Sauvie Island.  (sometimes called a state park). It's primarily for bird watchers and the Audubon Society has created a brochure and set up watching points. The other use is for fishermen and we saw a couple down on the dock.  When we went it was a really gray day and the light was fading towards the end.
