This is one of my favorite hikes because the terrain changes so dramatically. You start out in Portola Redwoods State Park amidst towering redwood trees. Quickly you cross into Pescadero County Park. As you gain elevation you start losing the redwoods and gain more madrone and scrub brush. About half-way through the trip you peak out at 1030' an the vist opens up dramatically -- you can see meadows and mountains. Then...
Hoffman Flat TH - Old Haul Rd - Pomponio Tr - Jones Gulch Tr - Lost - Pomponio Tr - Towne FR - Old Haul Rd - back to TH. A great hike through Pescadero Creek park's western section. I went off trail (or should I say got lost) trying to make a loop out of Jones Gulch and Brook trails - well, it ended up being the highlight of this hike....
Decent hike through the Mountains east of Pescadero. Most of the hike was on fire roads and equestrian trails which was not preferable. There is a small creek which is mostly stagnant.
Trip starts at free parking area and ends right where I re-joined Old Haul road where my batteries gave out.

Not bad company to be compared to in my opinion...My GPS has some of the major trails on it but not all of the smaller trails - thus the...
Rita and I decided to go hiking at the portola Redwoods and didn't panic or get lost or die by mountain lions. SUCCESS!!! Dude saw a mountain lion!!! And we scared it away with the noise of the car!!!
A nice day hike. On this day, the temperature was down in the 40s (in May!) which kept us hiking pretty much the whole loop without any longer breaks.
