We were staying the Melbourne area of Florida's Atlantic coast, hoping to see Shuttle Discovery launch, and we took an afternoon to drive the coastline South. We decided to check out Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, on the Indian River Lagoon.This spot is famous as a destination for migratory birds, who gather in the 1000s in the Winter. As one of the first National Wildlife Refuges in the US, it is truely a beautiful spot. As advertised, the residence of Pelican Island primary are visiting during the Winter. When we visited in early November, there were only local birds.
