Oahu is the home of Hawaii's capital, Honolulu, and the infamous site of Pearl Harbor.  Most tourists know Hawaii for its famous beaches, luaus, and relaxing atmosphere, but with so many great trails and sights to see you miss half of the fun staying on the beach. With some great waterfall hikes, stunning view points and lovely beaches around the islands, no trip to Hawaii is complete without a stop to this island.

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN - John, Seg, & FernNearly 2800 feet (850m) & about 3,922 steps, now its your turn ...Stairway to Heaven (Haiku Stairs) is an amazing trail that leads to the top of the Koolau Mountain Range. Originally built for the U.S. Coast Guard, the trail consists of a metal stairway that was made to access the LORAN radio antenna and the now out of commission OMEGA Station. It fell into disrepair and was closed to...

We got a tip from our teammate that this was his favorite hike, and and although it was difficult to find (park before the bridge that leads to the golf course), we eventually found the trail head. The man at the gate was extremely helpful despite challenging us by telling us marines finish the entire thing in about 90 minutes (and Recons in 45). We were also warned that some boars had recently...

We stayed an extra day on O'ahu after the Kaimana Klassik XXIII ultimate frisbee tournament to get in a few good hikes before flying back to California.  We took the advice of one of our teammates who lives in Hawaii and found the Makapu'u lighthouse trail along the Ka'iwi seashore.  At first it doesn't look like much of a hike (there is a large parking lot and a paved path), but the...

We drove through a tunnel to enter the crater of this old volcano.  The hike was only 0.8 miles each way, and wasn't too bad.  The view at the top from the old WWII bunkers was definitely worth it.

A local told us about a nice hike from Pail Highway to Waimanalo.  The entrance was very hidden, but we managed to find the opening.  After a mile or so we decided to head back to the car.

Visit as many of the Hawaiian islands as possible to get the full experience. While on Oahu, don't forget to explore Pearl Harbor, spend a first Friday in Chinatown, try new food during Eat the Streets, and visit one of the many art galleries! And have a beer at O'tooles, 902 Nuuanu Ave!

I spent every second I could within my 7 day trip being out and about. Stayed at Waikiki shore condo and was never there more than 8 hrs a day, mostly sleeping with an occasional shower. Definitely explore the Internet on the illegal hike u can find and do, just know your limits so u don't ruin the future hikes by getting care flighted out and shutting down the hikes permanatly. Find yourself at north shore for cholos Mexican after you get tired of south shore grill. Awesome fish tacos, I recommend the ssg mix plate. Ssg is in Waikiki. Mokapu, diamond head are the easy ones with good views. Koko head, waterfall hike, haiku stairs are next level but u get an awesome feel of achievement and killer views. If not raining for days straight find sacred falls, it was unreal how many water falls we're bestowed upon us at the finish line of this hike. It was also very dangerous since a landslide killed many in 1999. Known ur limits and keep if fun.

I always have a great time on Oahu. I have been there for a couple of days each year for the past 6 years and always have a great time at the beach and find some great hikes to go on. My favorites are probably Olomana, Maunawili, Makapuu and Hanauma Bay--such amazing views along each one of them.

If I could go run right now, I'd go run the Poamoho Ridge Trail. If I were to take you on a run, I'd ask you if you're ready to try the Poamoho Ridge Trail. The best trail I ran this year, the best run I had this year, the most fun I had this year, was on the Poamoho Ridge Trail. Oahu can be a great place to explore and run -- start with the Na Ala Hele website and go from there.

Oahu is great! I have been there every year for the past 5 years and plan to revisit next February. I go for a yearly ultimate frisbee tournament and usually add on a day or two for hiking. I think the Olomana Trail was my favorite hike so far, but it's pretty dangerous. Anyone who drives around this island will quickly realize how beautiful it is, and it's hard not to think of Lost when you are here.

The weather's always great, as is the food (I recommend a small BBQ stand near Waimanalo called Keneke's, I go there at least 4 times every year I'm here--it's AMAZING).

If you are staying in Waikiki /Honolulu I recommend an all day bike up Round Top Drive then down Tantalus Dr. Start in the early morning so you get back well before it gets dark. This is a bike hike going into the mountains above the city. It is steep, but the views are worth it. And the ride coasting down the mountain is cool too!

I was there for a conference, so I hardly got out of Honolulu. It also didn't help that I had come from Australia, which set a high bar for Oahu to meet.
