Community Trips
This route was inspired by route nr 8 in the Ucke/Graf guide book. We were glad we had imported our waypoints into the GPS gadget device, otherwise we wouldn't have found the "lovely donkey trail". It's sad that these hikings are not very popular with other (normal?) people, the most important reason why these paths are not very visible anymore. In the end we were able to walk a very nice trip. The trip starts at Agios Georgios. Follow the beach to the end where surfers have their hide-out. After that, there is sand and dunes until you reach the dam. Go right and climb the rocks near the sea. Getting wet by the aggressive waves only adds to the fun. At the end climb upwards. There's a plateau here, and a lot of new houses (in appearance similar to a kitschy castle) are...
Start at the Kafeneion in Chalki (actually the place is called Χάλκι, but due to translations it is also known as Halkio, Halki of Chalkio). Eat a little salad, enter the lane on the right of the taverna, down the square. Continue on this road and leave the town. Shortly after the bridge you will see a small building on the right, accompanied by a path that leads into the olive groves....
We walked this route 5 years ago. It is magnificent! We didn't have GPS at that time. In a few weeks we will walk this route again, but then we will have our GPS devices ready.This GPS data was copied from Christian Ucke's site. The accompanying book can be bought in Naxos.
