The 10th Annual Seek the Peak Hikathon to benefit the Mt. Washington Observatory. Great hike. Great time!
Bart, Rossko, Roger, and I hit up Tuck's, 4/17-4/19/2008--the weekend of the Son of Inferno Race. For Roger and me, it had been 20+ years since the last time we'd been there. It was Bart's second trip, and Rossko's first. See My Tux Trip website for the Tripp Report, with other photos.
This was an early October attempt to reach the summit of Mt. Washington. However, due to strong winds (80+ mph) and freezing temperatures, we decided to take the loop just below the summit. The Tuckerman trail was extremely busy with people going up and I would consider the Lion's Head trail to be much better for going down. The temps at the parking lot were in the 40's, and I was comfortable with a base layer & a T-shirt as we began our ascent. We both carried only a few items we thought would be helpful for this hike so the packs were quite light. Hearing about snow just the...
A very fun hike. Lion head going up was a little crowded. Huntington Ravine going down was empty. Full story on my blog.

Very cold and windy day on the mountain, but well worth it! Went up and down via the Lion Head winter trail, which is MUCH steeper than its summer counterpart. This is an absolutely amazing climb, but it goes without saying that one should ONLY do this with all the required equipment and a ton of warm clothes!Weather stats for the day:Sustained winds: 60mphPeak wind: 90mphTemperature: -1FFeel-like temperature: -39F
