The main objective for our hike was to climb up to the top of Tamarack Peak and find a geocache located there. The first part of the hike is on a 4 wheel drive road. At some point you have to leave the road and go straight up to the top. Fortunately, there is no bushwacking required. Just good lungs. At the top you have great views of the Mt Rose Wilderness...
This is a great hike to take for stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the Mt. Rose meadows to the south, as well as Mt. Rose Peak and some distant views of the valley between Reno and Carson City. Classic Route to Mount Rose, then came back via Mount Houghton. Was able to use skis on the way down from Mount Houghton

Nice walk through meadow. Too snowy to complete loop but still very enjoyable.
