This trip was from the Yellow Pinch camping ground up the South (Peasant's) Ridge to the saddle (Rum Jungle). We then went from the saddle up the West Peak. After coming down from the West Peak we found a small Camp spot just down form the Creek.

We arrived at the car park around 9am. We expected a short walk of around 90 minutes one way after our disappointing start to Mt Barney. How wrong we were... i quickly took back about doing this little hill twice. First up we hit a ridge that rose steeply up with little tracks. Every now and then you would find something that resembled some sort of track. Lots of boulders to move...

Set off early today to get a run at good old Mt Barney. We hit the track just after 7:30am with the Park rangers sitting in their car watching us get ready. (you’ll see soon why this is so important!!) Steep start to the long walk to flatten out just over the hill to walk to the base of Mt Barney. Got approximately 2.5km in to the hike when a Park Ranger...

Had an awesome day with fantastic weather. We took it easy with a lot of time spent on side trips to check out the great viewpoints.

Mount Barney - 24 Oct 2010Adrian, Greg, Amanda, Craig and I hike Mount Barney. This is a very challenging hike, with unrelenting steeps, rock crawls, scrambles, step ups, mazes of overgrown shrubs etc. You require at least 4 litres of water. Magnficient views back toward Mount Lindesay in the South and sweeping views over farmland. Mount Warning is visible in the vast distance

Mt Barney National Park provides the opportunity for various ascents with South and south East ridges the most popular. The mountain provides a challenge and must be attempted with caution if the weather is not the best.
