A short overnight trip at some friends in Charlotte, we decided to venture over to Mt. Morrow for a day of quick hiking, canoeing and fishing with the kids. Good time for all at this beautiful state park....
Sugarloaf Mountain trail. Intended to go around clockwise, but got lost shortly after the trail split from the trailhead and ended up going clockwise instead. Glad I did. The hike up the mountain was steep, a good workout, and I enjoy going up steep trails more than going down them. There aren't any spectacular views from the mountain, but it was a great day, and a gorgeous hike.Pictures at flickr.

We parked at the Horse Trailer parking lot and hiked the Sugarloaf
Mountain Trail in the counterclockwise direction until intersecting the
Morrow Mountain Trail. We followed this surprisingly strenuous trail up
to the summit of Morrow Mountain. A short section of this trail has
nearly 500 feet of elevation gain in a half mile. At the top we headed
over to the scenic overlook for some pictures then took the Mountain
Loop...
This is a short loop that cuts through the forests of Morrow Mountain State Park. It is an extremely easy trail, with little elevation gain/loss, no route finding required, and a gentle trail grade. But it is a nice introduction to the woods of Morrow Mountain, and gives you the chance to see some of the old quarries that served to build the first homes in the area.
