Majorca

Balearic Islands, Spain
 (4 votes, 4 reviews)
Majorca (Spanish and Catalan: Mallorca) is the largest island of Spain. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea and part of the Balearic Islands archipelago. The name derives from Latin insula maior, "larger island"; later Maiorica.
The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The Cabrera archipelago is administratively grouped with Majorca (in the municipality of Palma). The anthem of Majorca is La Balanguera.
Like the other Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Formentera, and Minorca, the island is a popular tourist destination. In Germany, the United Kingdom and to a lesser extent, Ireland, where package tourism to the island started in May 1952, Majorca has remained a popular destination.

One of the most varied walks we've ever done! Do bring a GPS as wayfinding is tricky and the path is overgrown at some places. Only for experienced walkers and you must be sure of foot. Part of the track is in a torrent, so care is needed.

Deia - Son Coll - Soller - Port de Soller

This is an easy walk that anyone could enjoy. There is an initial ascent of some 180 meters, after that it's a stroll down to Soller. Good viewpoints and there is an obvious stop at Son Mico after 1½ hour, where you can picnic with a splendid view. Once you get to Soller, I suggest you carry on, either by foot to Port de Soller or take the funny old tram to...

Mallorca is such a wonderfull place to walk. We were somewhat unlucky with the weather this time. It can be quite cold around Easter. But you have to choose: A cool walking temperature (and cold evenings) or too hot to walk and warm evenings. Can't get it all - can you..? :-)

i stay here for two weeks for roadbiking. of course, most of the time you have to fight against the wind, sometimes even stormy. but nevertheless - the best (and most romantic) bikeways ever seen, extremely friendly and tolerant car drivers, and a landscape which seems to be borne by the dreams of a roadbiker!

It is a great place for a holiday trip for everyone - if you like to party, there are always many clubs - if you like to rest, take a bike and ride a few kilometres away from the crowded centres to find a peaceful spot. There are many ways to travel through the island - you can rent a car, a bike, take a bus or even train, so it is impossible to get bored there :)
