Walking the trail to Cinnamon Mountain is one of the classic Big Sky hikes. The trail is well graded from bottom to top, with lots of forest and meadow hiking. The views along the trail are great - and then you get to the summit. You understand why they put a lookout tower up here. There are views in every direction. A splendid hike.
Rain greeted us at Beehive Basin, but the dreary weather could not hide the beauty of the flowers.
We have always wanted to hike up Dudley Creek. It is a wonderful place as the attached photos will attest.
We hiked up the Deer Creek Trail with our friends Caron and David. Late spring/early summer flowers, lots of water from melting snows and two pretty alpine lakes, along with good friends, made for a great day.
The forecast called for rain, but we decided to hike anyhow. This is one of the better hikes in the Gallatin Canyon as the view keeps changing. The lower part follows the small Cinnamon Creek up through pine and aspen forests, with the occasional clearing full of mountain wildflowers. About 2 1/2 miles or so up the trail, there's an intersection, where you turn right to go up the ridge. You cross...

It was cool and mostly cloudy, so the temperature for hiking was great. Mid-hike, thunderstorms blew in. Some rain, buts lots of hail. 1/4" to 1/2" hail. We went under a spruce tree for cover, and hoped that...
We had planned on hiking in the Porcupine area, but the stream was over its banks. So, we hiked up Tick Ridge (Dudley Ridge) instead. Tick Ridge is the ridge just north of Big Sky. Dudley Creek is the drainage north of Tick Ridge. We started at the foot of the Dudley Creek Road. We turned south, down to Big Sky, when we ran into significant snow on the ridge (and we...
Cinnamon - the classic Big Sky, Montana hike. We returned to this trail to share it with friends.
Check out this link for a panoramic image from the ridge. javascript:nicTemp();This trip track has two parts. The first is driving from Meadow Village, Big Sky, MT to the Windy Pass Trailhead at the end of the Portal Creek Road. The second part is the hiking part up to the Windy Pass Cabin and about half way up the ridge to The Sentinel. The hiking part has about 2,000 feet of elevation gain in...
