Lands End

Lands End is a beautiful area of San Francisco that stretches from the Cliff House and the Sutro Baths to China Beach, with a number of lesser-known hiking trails.  There is a moderate trail with breathtaking views of the waves crashing onto the shore with the Golden Gate Bridge poking out in the distance ever so often.

If you are going to hike this area, it is best to start from the Cliff House and walk North/East so that you can see the Golden Gate Bridge when it does appear (and the sun will be behind you).  For a further trip, continue through the wealthy Sea Cliff area to Baker Beach where you will meet up with the Coastal Trail past the Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Point, Crissy Field, and eventually For Mason.  It is a great hike (about 6 miles from the Cliffhouse to Fort Mason without detours to the beaches) with stunning views the entire time.

The Legion of Honor museum is also in this area, which often has some great exhibits on display, as well as a cafe.

Short Walk around the Lands End Seacliff Area with cameras, an extra lens, & a couple friends! We had a morning free and decided to take advantage of a spectacularly clear day with great temperatures. Quite a few joggers and sightseers were present on the trail on the day we went, but that is no surprise, and there was certainly some great views for everyone.

Tucked away, but spectacular trail along the cliffs in San Francisco. Great for a brief afternoon escape of the city.

David, John and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather in San Fransico today and go for a walk around Lands End.  We took a short detour down to the beach where we spent a while taking pictures of the crashing waves and the foam blowing in the wind.  We decided to walk by the Palace of the Legion of Honor on the way back and soon found ourselves at...

Let me 1st say.. WOW It was the clearest we ever saw the Golden Gate Bridge.  Amazing to say the least.  We seem to hit it right between the end of a storm and the evening fog starting to roll in.  Nature even gave me those great fluffy clouds for the photos. The time on that small rocky beach was something else. Makes you realize just how lucky you are to be alive. ...

Lands End is San Francisco’s wildest and rockiest coast, a place strewn with shipwrecks and rife with landslides. These wave- and wind-carved headlands west of the Golden Gate connect two popular landmarks: the Cliff House and the Palace of the Legion of Honor. The Spanish named Lands End’s westernmost promontory Point Lobos, so-called for the many lobos marinos (sea wolves, or sea lions as they’re known today) that once hauled up on the rocks offshore. The...

Land End is a hidden treasure in San Francisco. You wouldn't expect to find such a nice trail with great views in this busy city, but you can. The trail isn't very long, but you can continue it all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge if you like (that's what I did, and it took a few hours).

If you have less time, park near the sutro baths and walk along the trail until you reach the sea cliff area, and then walk back near the museum.
