This is a steep but exhilirating hike up Mount Takachiho-no-mine in the Kirishime range of volcanoes in Kyushu. Takachiho-no-mine is according to legend where the grandson of the sun goddess Amaterasu descended to Earth to found the Japanese Imperial line. There is a small Shinto shrine on the summit, and on a clear day you can see south to Kagoshima Bay and Mount Sakurajima.
